Change is coming!

In 2011, the administrators of Alim Academy acknowledged the need to use data to inform instruction and use multiple data points to meet the diverse needs of our students.  I proposed a literacy initiative that will foster collaboration among the teachers from our PreK-12 classes.

Systemic Professional Learning Day

As the co-Professional Development Instructional Teacher (PDLT) at my current school, I unpacked training modules for staff development such as Collaborative Conversations of the Curriculum Instructional Map, Close Reading as presented by Ms. Pam Allyn, and Using Assessments in Instruction component 3d of the Framework for Teaching provided by the Prince George's County Public School.

Parent~School Partnership

The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) of our school invited me to be the guest speaker in one of their monthly meetings.  Addressing the eminent change in our school in terms of using data to move the students along their learning continuum and gaining the buy-in of all stake-holders through open discussion was important.  This change will improve our school and sharing the information through a proper forum was a good opportunity to communicate to the parents that their input is valued and seen as very important when instituting school-wide change.

Parent Workshops
Title I Extended Learning Opportunities

Partnership between the school and home is important in building a strong literacy community.  As the Title I ELO Coordinator for my school, I was able to unite all stakeholders in providing workshops that empowers parents with skills and knowledge on how to better help their children at home.  With careful program planning, parents learned tools and engaged in hands-on activities with teaching and learning materials specifically provided as their take-home packets to ensure learning is extended beyond the school's classroom walls.
